The question always arises when dealing with tele-evangelist or even to some extent outfits like EWTN, "What is the attraction?" The real absence of God in most spheres of public life and culture is perhaps one. A kind of herd populism is perhaps another. The mistaken notion that emotions can substitute for the real loss of wonder, intelligence and mystery in a culture, is perhaps another. But these fellows, like Pat Robertson and co., should never, and would never, have had an honest following in any culture that was on the rise or thriving.
