Message: Entry: Rev. Robertson Sells His Soul Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/rev_robertson_sells_his_soul#9149 Post contents: From one of the National Review's article on Giuliani: "As a top GOP operative says: “Reagan has provided the stylistic model for Republican leaders ever since he first ran: tough-talking, moral clarity, inspirational rather than tactical [or substantive] in rhetoric, someone who will stand up to dangerous foreign enemies [but won't stand up to domestic ones]. Bush fits in that model, and so does Rudy. This style and these attributes are as important, if not more important, than particular issue stands to many voters.” Doesn't that last sentence just sum up the Republican party of the last few decades. One of the major "conservative" website owners is all in a blather over the idea that if Giuliani is elected it will destroy conservatism, but really, how is Giuliani different from Bush? They're both products of a historical trend - the continuing leftward swing of the entire body politic, including the Republican party and the conservative movement, under the cultural dictatorship of television. Rudy's just more of the same as Little George. The website alluded to has been one of George's biggest and most mindless cheerleaders, but it is impossible to make conservatives think about long term trends or engage in some sort of sociological examination of society. They are too full of fear and too culturally powerless. Sent at: 2008 11 22
