Second, I call him a courageous, erudite man who can see the shades of grey and who knows that subtle distinctions are often the most important. He knows that there is a considerable difference between support for Israel and support of the Lincoln-Wilson-Neoconservative program of US expansionism. Some Neoconservatives and some Antisemitic and Judeophobic writebackers both do not know these shades of grey. He also knows that a lot more happened in Mitteleuropa, and a lot of things of equal important happened, than just the genocide of Jews, as appalling as that crime doubtless is. He also knows that the Catholic Church teaches, clearly, in the Magisterial document <i>Nostra Aetate</i>, that there is absolutely NO blood guilt against the Jews; and those who say so are guilty of heresy and liable, and thus they are not Catholic. His keen ability to see the shades of grey and the fine nuance has prompted his restrained fairness to the loathsome MacDonald. I invite him to consider other shades of grey.
