Message: Entry: Mopping up the Israel Lobby Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/mopping_up_the_israel_lobby#9288 Post contents: the council removed the condemnation of deicide from the final schema We call this the fallacy of "an argument from silence". Otherwise Boyd Cathey cherry picks from obscure documents. I cite mine, give the location within them, and links. The document boldfaced by me is an authoritative one. And for Nostra Aetate, #4 see http://www.vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_decl_19651028_nostra-aetate_en.html I’ll look up the link for the Guidelines on Religious Relations with the Jews Readers can read the documents I've quoted, in the places I've quoted, and judge for themselves. They don't have to take it from me. Boyd Cathey's idea of infallibility is flat wrong, perpetuates a popular misunderstanding, and keeps otherwise good souls out of the church. It's only been used twice. Period. Full Stop. And a Catholic or Catholic organization that does not recognize Vatican II, does not Church documents as authoritative (such as the one I quoted and linked), or does not accept the authority (Magisterial and Pastoral) of the current Bishop of Rome is not in union with Rome. And thus rejects the First Vatican Council as well. Period. Full Stop. The SSPX, by the way, has done us a great service with liturgy, and I'm grateful to them. The members whom I've met are fine folks and very praiseworthy. AND the ones whom I know are not Antisemites. So I cannot support what "I am not Sparticus" says about the SSPX, at least from my experience. He's correct about some other matters. And I thank him for his link. The Society is now working with Rome toward a compromise. This is a delicate period. Let's pray for that reconciliation. Such a reconciliation will benefit the whole Church. Sent at: 2008 05 15
