I bear part (but only part) of the blame for that, in that I can't resist answering Sid when he throws out certain phrases about Vatican II, etc. I apologize for "taking the bait," and running with it. We did this back about five weeks ago, and it went on ad infinitum. I've ended my participation in this "debate," and will get back to topic.... I've got (and read) several of Norman Finkelstein's books, including THE HOLOCAUST INDUSTRY, BEYOND CHUTZPAH, etc. Along with Avi Shlaim, Albert Lindemann, Timothy Cole,and Peter Novick, he offers an intelligent analysis (and critique, if only indirectly) by able Jewish scholars of the Israeli Lobby as it attempts to stifle debate and silence opponents. Lindemann and Arno Mayer offer additional insights, historically, as does I. Shamir. Although the Walt-Mearsheimer volume can be legitimately faulted at points, as Paul Gottfried has detailed, still I think it a valuable work, by undoubted "establishment" academics. The reaction of the ADL, etc. has been predictable, and Walt and Mearsheimer have not been spared the calumny. Still, a major work that opens the door wider on a subject that needs discussion.
