Message: Entry: Patriots, Not Haters Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/real_patriots_dont_hate#9733 Post contents: Some folks need to look up "discriminate" in the dictionary. When I say an apple is an apple and an orange an orange, I discriminate. If Boyd Cathey means that "to discriminate" doesn't justify a meaning "to disadvantage", he is correct. Still, the authoritative Church documents quoted by me are using "discrimination" in the sense of "to disadvantage". What the Holy Father and the Sacred Council clearly said I have posted for all the read and boldfaced. In particular: No foundation [and that means any foundation, including putative "differences" in the "races"] therefore remains for any theory [e.g.racialism] or practice [e.g. slavery, Jim Crow, quotas, restrictions] that leads to discrimination between man and man or people and people, so far as their human dignity and the rights flowing from it are concerned. Our Browns regrettably use "difference" and "discriminate" as an imperative to disadvantaging someone "as far as their human dignity and the rights flowing from it are concerned. (To be clear, Boyd Cathey certainly is not saying what such Browns are saying) And again: "Race" is a 19th Century fiction, a fantasy of Arthur de Gobineau. It has no scientific basis. Skin color and eye color have nothing to do with anything important, or even trivial, about a human being. If the Church hasn't said anything about biological equality or difference (find me an authoritative Church document that says otherwise!), it's because the Church recognizes that such putative equality or inequality isn't important, and certainly isn't a basis for discrimination, as the document which I have quoted clearly say.
