Amit’s near arrival
Well, Amit Singh didn’t quite do it and was defeated by Mark Ellmore last night in the contest in Virginia’s 8th. Dave Weigel reports from the after party. As Dave mentions, the crowd was youthful, enthusiastic, sometimes intoxicated. I actually felt like one of the oldest in the room.
There’s certainly countless examples of groups of upstarts who didn’t pull if off on their first try but announced to all who would listen that by dint of sheer youth, they must represent “the future,” only to quickly fade and vanish. Sure. But the GOP should take note that it is only the Ron Paul platform (and no other Republican deviation) that is launching successful insurgent campaigns across the country. Mark Ellmore ran for the nomination for two year, Amit for 4 months; and yet Amit out-fundraised his opponent nearly 4 to 1. I don’t know what the Ellmore victory party was like, but I seriously doubt youth and talk of limiting government and getting out of Iraq were on display. Ron Paul Republicanism might be a bit quixotic at the moment, but it’s the only aspect of the GOP that doesn’t reek of terminal decline.

I do hope the GOP ignores the insurgency. But a fire is lit, and much as Mrs. O’Leary’s cow, they ignore it to their own peril. I suspect the convention is going to be more fun and more entertaining than anyone expects. At least outside - the sour and dour coronation inside v.s. the Ron Paul rally outside. Maybe the LP and CP can sponsor a debate nearby so there will be something interesting for the Paul supporters to listen to.
Leave the dead to bury the dead. Starve the RINOs and feed the upstart baby elephants.
Similarly, I hope we don’t attack Iran, as those small speed boats v.s. Carriers and Tankers might yield similarly unexpected results.

So, are there any threads that the hardcore white nationalist types are not going to try and hijack from the rest of us? I support Amit and wish him well in the future.

I am not a white nationalist, but Amit Singh’s support for increases in legal immigration makes him unacceptable in my book.
I know that Paul had said in the VDare interview that if a need arose, he would support such increases, which made my support for Paul more tepid, although I still voted for him in the primary. Regardless, if you read Singh’s platform, he takes his position much further than Paul’s - to a point where it is indistinguishable from that of Barack Obama, Linda Chavez or Bill Kristol.

Interesting comment by Lew Rockwell on his blog:
“Let’s face it, folks. There is only one Ron Paul. Indeed, he is unique in the entire history of American politics. So I take with a grain of salt all the claims of various pols to be Ron Paulians. Oh, we do have free will. It is possible for an eloquent and principled intellectual to be a brilliant campaigner, to reject the lure of Power, and to work untouched in corrupt DC for peace and freedom—to be another Ron Paul, that is. But even Jefferson sold out, so I am not holding my breath. And note that it is long-term performance in office that will decide the question, not campaign blather.
For example, I do not join those mourning the loss of Amit Singh in Northern Virginia. This minor-league merchant of death, who brags of being a contractor for the NSA and the Pentagon, and of helping write the software for Total Information Awareness!, ran for the Republican nomination for congress as a Ron Paulian. Perhaps conservative conman Mark Ellmore, who beat Singh last night, is even worse. But thanks to performance in office, here is one thing we know for sure: the incumbent, Democrat Jim Moran, is not bad on the war.”

Are you white nationalists against Rep. Weiner’s bill to allow more foreign fashion models on to our shores?
