Close Call

Posted by Daniel Larison on March 29, 2008

At Eunomia, I defend paleos who are skeptical of Obama against the absurd criticisms of an over-enthusiastic Obamacon.  Ironically, until I was shocked back to my senses by this attack, I was beginning to give the pro-Obama argument more weight, and I had started entertaining the idea that a candidate who has all the right enemies might be worth taking more seriously.  Pieces of trash such as these began moving me Obamawards, because I saw the same kinds of lies and distortions being told about Obama and his advisors that are routinely said about us.  So thank goodness that one of his supporters shook me out of my stupor and reminded me that paleos will be even worse off if Obama is elected.

Legitimate differences exist between US Senator Obama and conservatives, liberals, anti-war idealists, and libertarians in the areas of governmental policies, but Obama’s main problem is his bizarre labels for Americans of European origins. Who cares about Rev. Wright, let’s look at the divisive vocabulary that Obama would bring to the Oval Office.

Reverse Racism—A term he used in his notorious race relations speech last week, but racism is racism no matter which direction it comes from. It’s a term to denigrate discrimination against white blue-collar & white-collar workers & students.

White Resentments—A term he used in the same speech to tell us how white Americans feel. It’s a term like “happy black people,” it’s patronizing on its face.

Acting White—This term goes back to his 2004 convention speech, and he has never apologized for using such a derogatory label to smother white diversity.

Typical White Person—Uttered about his grandmother the day after his race relations speech, this is just a condescending label bunching all the diverse white Americans into clones of each other. It is obviously a pathological label from Obama’s imagination.

If we’re Eloi, Obama is a Morlock.

Finally some sense on Obama from a Takicon. Voting for Obama solely because he’d get us out of Iraq is idiotic. A better argument, if you want one, is that an Obama/Michelle race-based administration might finally awaken America to what black/liberal race obsession is doing to the country. But too few might awaken, and the damage done would be incredible and mostly undoable. If paleos support Obama, they’ll have no future in the conservative movement, period.

Its not about solely getting out of Iraq but putting the crazies of eternal war back in the box. You keep forgetting a vote for McCain is a vote for the commie-cons.

@jet

I despise McCain, but I fear Obama. With either one as president the country heads south (as the south heads north). With McCain, as with Bush, the most you can hope for is one or two decent justices. That’s it. His only selling point. Four years of McShit for a justice. Fortunately, this aging two-timer will probably only be a one-termer.

Close one there Mr. Larison.  Good to see you regained your senses.  Seems like half the postings here lately have been nothing but Prop-Obama-ganda from a few fools.  I was recently thinking of scratching this site from my bookmarks but now I am happy you are still in our camp.

Ravis has a good point.  Besides Obama’s obvious dangers, there is a good reason to favor McInsane.  At his age he is the most likely not run for a second term.

I’ll still be thrilled if Hillary takes the White House, as far as I can be thrilled at such a horrible happening.

Obama would be a disaster, as would McCain.  What we need is a Sailer-Larison ticket, or the equivalent.

Mccain belongs in the geriatric VA pycho ward.Hillary is bat shit insane.Obama is sane but stll evil beyond words,Buchanan-Taki for president.

Out of McCain, Hillary, and Obama, it is difficult to know who to be most scared of. One issue that doesn’t seem to have attracted much comment is the fact that Obama has Brzezinski as a foreign affairs adviser. As a non-American, Brzezinski’s involvement in organisations like the Trilateral Commission and the Bilderbergers, and his openly expressed support for what amounts to world government by US interests, is disturbing to say the least.

Thank you. I was really wondering about the sanity of those “paleoconservatives” who would embrace a navel-gazing lefty who reeks so strongly of identity and victim politics, and whose anti-war record amounts to a single, uninspired speech which was only anti-Iraq, not anti-war.

That’s not to mention that he will slur anyone as an un-American xenophobe who supports immigration restriction.

But people will vote for a guy solely because they say they are pro-life?

Does Obama/McCain endorse their pastor/spiritual advisor or does their spirtual advisor/pastor endorse the candidate?

Why would a politician listen to a pastor when it comes to politics?

What attack?

I was one of those who like Obama’s rhetoric that seems to be sensitive to populist white working class concerns.

But close scrutiny of his words reveals a lot of problems with what he is really saying.

This is the guy who wants to withdraw troops from Iraq, and invade Pakistan. Is there any doubt that he would send troops into places like Dafur or Rwanda. Even Hillary Clinton would be reluctant to do that.

As for his alleged sensitivity to white working class resentment against affirmative action, it’s really dismissive of their concerns, the old “liberal” attitude that working class white people are voting agianst their economic self interest by voting for Republicans on the vain hope that Republicans will do something to stop the advance of the “diversity” and “multiculuralism” agenda.

Is McCain any better? Well, maybe not. But Obama is a vain hope as an alternative.
