I Guess It’s Okay Then

Keeping their priorities straight, both NRO and the New York Post are highlighting a Reuters story on how the stock market is soaring--in Iraq. Americans anxiously watching retirement savings disappear should be comforted at the thought that the hundreds of billions we have squandered in Iraq in pursuit of neoconservative fantasies might one day allow the Iraqis to privatize their own version of Social Security.

@Tom,
Last month, Iraq’s general index went up nearly 40 percent, about the same percentage the Dow dropped over the past year. The jovial trading-floor mood is reminiscent of Wall Street’s bygone “greed is good” era of the 1980s.
Maybe we can merge the US stock exchange with theirs. We would break even then.
The Middle Eastern “masters of the universe” use complicated hand signals to communicate, keep their phones glues to their ear, and track their deals on whiteboards.
Hmmm, who says that old is necessary bad? I like this, we should go back to it. It would take a lot longer for Wall Street to squander our money that way.
Vodra pointed out that Baghdad’s buoyancy amid the world’s bear markets is not necessarily a good indicator of Iraqi fiscal health.
“It does show that they are unconnected to the rest of the world,” he said.
Lucky them. This means that our plutocrats can’t louse things up for them like they have for everyone else.

Speaking of NRO, Buckley’s son just endorsed Obama.
What a joke.

Mr. Phillips. And the photo of that dandy endorsing the collectivist says far more than does his written endorsement

The dandy fathered an illegitimate child whom he rarely (ever?) sees and Boy Buckley’s multi-millionaire Dad, Bill, wrote a Will stating that for all practical purposes, the Dandy’s child, Johnathan, will be considered to have “predeceased” Bill. IOW, Buckley’s Grandson did not inherit ONE F N Penny.
And THIS is the family that rid the right of “kooks” and which thinks Palin is an “embarrassment”.
The Bathos of this bunch runs deep beneath, but not uncontaminated by, the liberal sewers of NY and Washington.
I’ll take one BILLION Sarah’s over one male Buckley.

Note that Buckley is a “libertarian” on abortion, gay marriage, etc.

WFB was almost singlehandedly responsible for making the illogical link building the bridge between 1950s Roman Catholicism and American-style Conservatism. In doing this, he unwittingly exposed himself as an opportunist hack, since the synthesis he built evolved into paleoconservatism. WFB also screwed over his own people by selling out to the neocons in the 1980s.

This is what the first sentence above should read.

The apple does not fall far from the cart, pompous, verbose, self-absorbed twits both.
