Right On, Bacevich!
I see I’m not the only paleo rooting (albeit not voting) for Obama. Here‘s Andrew Bacevich in The American Conservative:
“So why consider Obama? For one reason only: because this liberal Democrat has promised to end the U.S. combat role in Iraq. Contained within that promise, if fulfilled, lies some modest prospect of a conservative revival.
“To appreciate that possibility requires seeing the Iraq War in perspective. As an episode in modern military history, Iraq qualifies at best as a very small war. Yet the ripples from this small war will extend far into the future, with remembrance of the event likely to have greater significance than the event itself. How Americans choose to incorporate Iraq into the nation’s historical narrative will either affirm our post-Cold War trajectory toward empire or create opportunities to set a saner course.”
“The neoconservatives understand this. If history renders a negative verdict on Iraq, that judgment will discredit the doctrine of preventive war. The “freedom agenda” will command as much authority as the domino theory. Advocates of “World War IV” will be treated with the derision they deserve. The claim that open-ended “global war” offers the proper antidote to Islamic radicalism will become subject to long overdue reconsideration.”
Bacevich continues: “Give the neocons this much: they appreciate the stakes.” Us paleos, as per usual, apparently do not. Which is why the former still retain control of the GOP, in spite of the complete failure of their political program of perpetual war and “presidential” monarchism.
I would note that a previoius TAC article, attacking Obama, was written by a “former” Trotskyite, Brendan O’Neill, whose ”Revolutionary Communist Party” is the British equivalent of our own “former” Trots-turned-”Trotskycons." ‘Nuff said!

I am all for Raimondo and Bachevich on this.
By now, barring some spectacular information, such as an unrefutable proof that Obama is a card carrying member of Al Qaida, I am totally sold on Barack Obama.
I find it extremely disturbing that some Americans can even contemplate voting for the AIPAC stooges such as McCain or Hillary.
I want to encourage Raimondo in his support for the only sane candidate for the White House.

As you probably remember, Prof. Bacevich, who had opposed the Iraq adventure from the beginning, lost his only son, 1LT Andrew Bacevich, AUS, in the same Iraq conflict last year. He never mentioned his son’s service while he was alive, even though to do so would have given him even more authority in his opposition. RIP.

If O’Blammy gets the Democratic nomination and looks like a shoo-in, Justin’s support without his vote is very fair indeed. If, however, it appears that McCain just might win, Justin should swallow his pride and bubblegum and vote for the Democrat even if it’s Sister Frigidaire. A Democrat is less likely to appoint another unitary-executive troll to the highest bench, just for one thing.

The implication here is that O’Neill is a kind of neocon. I’m not his biggest fan but the stuff at Spiked Online is hardly comparable to Suleiman Schwartz and the ‘American’ neocons.
His (O’Neill’s) article is convincing. Obama has also joined the anti-Serb bully boy club and wants military action to save his fellow blacks in Sudan. In short - Obama is a warmonger.

Obama is the best of 3 terrible choices.Anyone the Israeli lobby is against, can’t be all bad. McCain will get less than 30% of the vote, if he is the nominee. He couldn’t carry my state, if he gave every voter a goldpiece.I wish I could vote for someone this election,oh well.

“It might sound strange coming from the man who quite literally has written the book on paleoconservatism in America, but Gottfried said he’s planning to vote for Barack Obama if he wins the nomination.
“‘I think he’s terrible,’ Gottfried said.
“‘I’m just hoping he’ll be so bad and create such a financial crisis, that he’ll actually push this country back to the right.’”

Iraq may indeed be a small war in the grand scheme of things, yet it is the second costliest war in US history.
Does America have a military that it can’t actually afford to use?

Vote for Barack? Give me a damn break. Do you really believe he is going to end the wear and bring tghe troops home?
I don’t. Barack is a lying Saul Alinsky race-racketeering corrupt far left “wigger.”

I VERY much doubt Mr. Bacevich knows Barack’s ghastly background.

That’s not right at all - Spiked! are still avowedly ‘Libertarian-Marxist’, and do not in any way see themselves as conservative. Plus all the evidence is they have zero influence in the corridors of power. Furthermore Spiked! has run at least one pro-Obama, “lay off the Obama bashing”, article.

Obama is, by his words, a Liberal Interventionist, albeit more reality-based than McCain. He seems more likely to do something crazy than Clinton, who like her husband should hopefully stick to bombing small, unpopular countries like Serbia. Not great, but the best option of the three.
