The Stupid Party

Posted by Richard Spencer on August 27, 2008

Senator Allan Simpson of Wyoming was reportedly the first person to label the GOP the “Stupid Party,” a slightly preferable organization to the depraved Democratic “Evil Party.” Well, I find it difficult to tell which party is more evil these days, but the Democrats are definitely making the case at their convention that they are by far and way the most stupid.

Monday night was a net loss—not only was the whole show idiotic and unwatchable, but the DNC generally embarrassed itself by trotting out Michelle Obama and forcing her to wax on about her family values and love of country. Last night was basically a wash, this time due to pure selfishness. In his keynote address, Mark Warner clearly didn’t give a fig about Obama and decided to give a speech that would help him get elected to the Senate in a purple state—stressing bipartisanship and his love of smart political ideas, no matter which party they come from. He added in a little Jim Webb-style southern Virginia populism, which again was meant for domestic consumption.

Hillary then came on stage and in her speech and accompanying video presented herself as an iconic figure in the women’s movement. The tenor of the performance was, “Isn’t it sad that I, representative of all women, didn’t quite go over the top this year. Well, maybe next time?” I also agree with someone whom I almost never agree with that Hill’s endorsement of Obama was “shockingly minimal.” I think it’s safe to say that we can expect some more “it’s all about me” antics when it’s Joe Biden’s turn this evening.

Are the Democrats really this stupid—and petty, and self-absorbed, and oblivious—that they’re going to screw up their big chance when most of the country is longing for something—anything—different than Bush and Republican rule? I think they are.

Very, very funny, and very true, I consider Alan Simpson to be one of the more stupid Republican’s, by the way.

Is it just me, or does Michelle look like she could throw a meaner right hook than Obama?

If Senator Allan Simpson of Wyoming was the first person to label the GOP the “Stupid Party, it was Samuel Francis who popularized this label, a man whose immortal wisdom has been forgotten or ignored on this website by the obstinate noninterventionists and Christian fanatics who are attempting to hijack the paleoconservative movement. I would advise anyone who claims to be a true conservative to reread the works of Mr. Francis.

The Democrats never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

Francis is one of my greatest influences - and was a staunch non-interventionist. His post 9/11 column remains one of the best on the tragedy and is such a strong indictment of U.S. interventionism that when I read it live on radio - we were barraged with calls from Sean Hannity fans outraged that I read such “communist” and “bleeding heart liberal,” “garbage” on the air.

“obstinate noninterventionists?”

Well Jack stole my thunder, but Sam Francis was hardly an interventionist. I am almost certain he would be right in line with the columnists and posters here at TakiMag. Why do you think otherwise?

Jack,

Calling Francis a staunch noninterventionist is an exaggeration. James Burnham was the most prominent thinker to influence Francis and Burnham was very much a proponent of interventionism, albeit not of the Wilsonian variety. However, I did not bring up Francis to debate his foreign policy orientation. Instead, the thrust of my argument is that these two issues (Noninterventionism and Christianity) have become the only issues that matter to many of the regulars on this website. The zealous fervor with which they subscribe to these ideologies has warped their understanding of what it truly means to put the interests of Western Man well in front of the interests of outsiders. Francis, on the other hand, never had a problem with the expediency of self-interest. Nor did he ever have any problem recognizing that what is good for Western Man is good for mankind.

Hahahaha!  That’s hilarious!

Oh for the record I agree that non-interventionism is more a relic of the paleo- alliance than of actual paleoconservatism.

I’ve noticed more and more over the past few months the vast differences between the paleo-libs and paleo-cons.  Granted we agree on much more than we disagree about, but if the paleo-cons ever really do experience a renaissance I’m not sure if the libs will endorse it all.

I often hear Rothbardians praising Buchanan and the other cons for opposing NAFTA just like them.  This completely ignores the fact that Buchanan opposed it because it was *too* free-trade: the libs oppose it because it wasn’t free-trade *enough* (or rather, they think it created more barriers than it tore down).

Ian, actually it is foreign policy where paleocons and paleolibertarians agree most.

I agree with you Red, Rothbard Libertarians love Buchanan’s foreign policy. That includes the late Murray himself. Ecconomics is where they disagree but even there it isn’t bitter but friendly.

Jack Hunter, If you meant this one http://vdare.com/francis/why_they_attack.htm thanks intriguing me enough to search for it.  Good stuff.

Iwas watching Democracy Now and seeing what the latest police state tactics were but unfortunately Amy Goodman began to interview Clinton supporters.

Such whining and self-pity and outrage and hatred was amazing to see. Hillary was treated so badly and unfairly and the media said terrible things about her.

I would have said they were power mad castrating feminazi dykes myself so Hillary probably got off pretty easy. Seeing delegates crying and inferring they are probably going to vote for Nader to make sure Hillary can rule the white male bastards in 4 years made me think that any man who saw that wouldn’t vote for any Democrat. The Republican Convention promises more insane jabbering. These parties and a danger to the country and the world.

How does one delink Christianity from Western Civilization?  I do not mean the false ‘social justice’ or ‘flag waving varieties, either.  ST

Simon,

“How does one delink Christianity from Western Civilization?  I do not mean the false ‘social justice’ or ‘flag waving varieties, either.”

All great civilizations are founded upon a dual moral code that recognizes there is a “them” and an “us,” and that the latter must be willing to put its self-interest well in front of the former. Christianity in practice today has become a universal moral code that no longer recognizes this distinction. This was not always so. One need only recall the days of Western expansion when Christianity buttressed the belief that we were civilizing the savages of the world by conquering them. It is no coincidence that the universalizing of Christianity has been correlated with the steady deterioration of Western civilization. Your statement of the “false social justice” variety of Christianity indicates that you might share my concern with the current form of Christianity being practiced in the Western world today. Whether or not this is a perverted form of Christianity or a truthful interpretation is debatable, but what is not debatable is that Christianity has become an enabling force of the One-Worlders who are steering our civilization towards suicide. No civilization will survive that does not place the interest of its own people well above the interest of outsiders. Christian fanatics who insist upon blindly following abstract moral principles at the expense of real world interests will continue to destroy the rest of us for the sake of their slave morality.

“Christianity has become an enabling force of the One-Worlders who are steering our civilization towards suicide”

Mr. Gavin, one itsy-bitsy tiny little point needs to be made before we chunk Christianity into the ash-bin of history. It also happens to be the “enabling force” behind saving your immortal soul. Just thought I should point that out.
