Vote GOP for “The Judges”

When it comes to how they will vote in November, Republican voters say that the type of Supreme Court Justices a candidate would appoint is more important than the War in Iraq. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 44% of Republicans pick the economy as the top voting issue, 30% name judicial appointments, and just 19% pick the War in Iraq.
Everyone, of course, is sick of thinking about the war, but one can also hear the the wheels of rationalization turning: “Maybe McCain wouldn’t be sooo bad...”

How much longer is the judges ruse going to work on voters? I was hoping it would be a spent stratagem after Rove/GW.
Other interesting polls are those showing that the majority of GOP voters think that McCain is “tough on immigration” or do not know where he stands on the issue.

“Maybe McCain wouldn’t be sooo bad...”
That in no way describes my feeling, even though I probably agree with most of those polled. The culture war is exponentially more important in my mind than the Iraq war. Judges are nuclear weapons of the cultural war.
The primary importance of the Supreme Court appointment(s) is even clearer when you consider there is no real anti-war candidate running.
No, I think McCain would be bad. So bad in fact that when I think of that man moving into the White House, I have to turn away from my thoughts, or risk insanity, like trying to contemplate infinity for too long.

As a Ron Paul supporter, I am very grudgingly leaning towards Sen. McCain in the general election. Sen. Obama’s support for that atrocious farm bill may end up sealing the deal.
The only issue on which Obama is clearly preferably to McCain is the war, which I opposed as ill-conceived and wasteful from the very beginning. On illegal immigration it’s a wash; they are both pro-amnesty multiculturalists. On judges, McCain is a gamble, but Obama has clear, stated position that he will work to undo the only good that came out of the disastrous Bush administration.
If I had to choose only between (maybe) ending the war and (maybe) tilting the balance of the SCOTUS,
then I’d likely vote Libertarian in the general election (or write in Ron Paul). For me, however, the prospect of a Democratic coup in the legislature accompanied by a leftist President is frightening enough to consider pinching my nose, casting my ballot, and crossing my fingers.
More entitlements, more affirmative action, more bloated government, a more hostile business environment, more empowerment for lawyers, more publicly funded madrassas, more earmarks for community organizers, environmental extortionists, and diversity consultants. Does this sound like the America you want to live in?
Ending war is easier than eviscerating big government, getting bad laws off the books, and ushering a Nanny-state-nurtured, neotenic citizenry into a functional, self-sufficient society. While I’m not optimistic about a McCain presidency, it’s time to stop worrying about the inevitable bleeding over the next four years; our greater focus should be on triaging the wounds.

The way I see it:
America is broken.
However, the Supreme Court just could be “stop gap” measure towards it’s eventual destruction. John McCain just very well provide us all with that stop-gap measure, either Obama or Hillary would not, ergo, a vote John McCain it is, based upon a SINGLE POSSIBILITY.
In reality, I’m sitting here, near-drunk in Raleigh, North Carolina, far away from my home in East Alabama. What do I know?

The only possible benefit to voting McCain is that it is a vote for divided government. In a time of peace, this would probably lead me to lean toward McCain as the lesser of two evils (though I would never vote based on that calculation), but in a time of war, McCain at the helm is a truly horrifying thought.
The judges thing is a lie smart people tell themselves to justify a “safe” vote or even a vote for the “home team” party. Pat Buchanan’s unforgivable endorsement of Bush in 04 is a perfect example of the “court card” being played for such reasons.

Let me be blunt here. There is another potential huge reason to vote McCain. He isn’t going to make it to a second term and maybe won’t make it through the first. In fact, he may not make it across the lawn of the White House after being sworn in. He is in is seventies and has health problems.
Now, if McCain is forced to select a passable VP candidate, someone who is acceptable to conservatives even if he isn’t perfect, then Vice President Passable would most likely become President Passable.
I still would take Hillary over McCain, but that may not be a choice.

Rollo, give up the ghost, the only thing we are going to get from McCain is endless war for Israel and judges like Sandra Day O’Conner and David Souter. The Republicans gave us legalized abortion. Barry Goldwater was the first ever Presidential candidate to come out for it. Ronald Reagan gave us the first liberal abortion law in 1967. Nelson Rockefeller gave us a much worse one in 1968. Five of the seven Roe vs Wade judges were Republicans. Prescott Bush was a founder of Planned Parenthood. The Rockefellers have always heavily funded it. The juridiction of The Surpreme Court in abortion cases could have been removed by simple act of Congress with the President’s signature. We had years to do it. Instead we went to the middle east and destroyed the economy and the Republican Party. To vote for McCain after this treachery is insane.

Entitlements? Bush and the Republican controlled Congress gave us the biggest entitlement growth since Johnson. They suck up to the Saudi’s who do fund the Madrassas and Al Qaeda. Corporations are getting fat off tax giveaways paid for by the middle class. e..g. the poor oil industry who need all those tax breaks. Even Bush thought things had gone too far but Rove was there to tell him to keep on message. Republican Imperial national socialism has led us to the brink of another great depression. Judges are the opiate of the deluded Republican masses.

The Republican-appointed Supreme Court of California just gave us legalized homosexual marriage. The Republican appointees to the US Supreme Court have been a mixed bag. Put not your faith in judges!

Staash, don’t vote for McCain, vote for Chuck Baldwin. I guarantee he will appoint sound judges. Your vote is not going to decide the matter anyway. Especially in most States the winner is already a foregone conclusion. Vote your conscience and send a message. If you vote for McCain, you will just regret it in the future.

What sort of judges is McCain going to provide that trumps the destruction of our economy, military, and Constitution? McCain is NOT a culture warrior, and on these issues has more in common with Ted Kennedy than Pat Buchanan. McCain is going to continue the unchecked expansion of the welfare\warfare\surveillance state. Conservatives need to face up to the fact that McCain is a liberal on every issue that counts , both domestic and foreign. I know that Obama is terrible on domestic issues, but at least he offers the chance of a somewhat sane foreign policy, while McCain doesn’t even offer that much.

The war and judges cannot be so neatly separated. The war carries with it judges who will enable it: overseas, at home, and in the legal demi-mondes that now exist in Guantanmeo, secret prisons, and elsewhere. If you are a conservative who considers preservation of constitutional rights important, is Sen McCain a plus even on judges? My mind is not resolved on the point. As Jack Benny would say, “I’m thinking, I’m thinking.”
