Sad news this week as legendary actor Tony Curtis passed away Wednesday at the age of 85. Jamie Lee Curtis, his daughter with actress Janet Leigh, spoke out about their fractured relationship. “His personal failings and public successes have been well documented, and my relationship with him, although nonexistent for much of my life, in the end was good and based on mutual respect rather than any father and daughter model,” she said. Born Bernard Schwartz in the Bronx, he went on to star in the much-loved Some Like It Hot.
Just when you think it couldn’t get any worse…Lindsay Lohan has supposedly been trying to shop around photos of herself after being released from jail. The price? $10,000 for one of her wearing her now-notorious SCRAM bracelet. “But who wants to deal with that headache?” said one source. All the tabs passed so she may have sold them to a smaller agency. Her time out in the real world was short-lived, however. After she violated her probation, she’s looking at her rehab options around LA. And the story never ends.
Paris Hilton got back a bit of her bad girl image with her recent arrest for drug possession, but the ditzy blonde is now swearing off the club scene. One reports says “Paris much prefers staying home with her boyfriend and watching movies.” Hmm, that’s funny, because not two days later there were rumors she’s signed a new reality show deal with Oxygen. So money-hungry spotlight grabber or quiet housewife? Which is it, Paris?
There were plenty of media moves this week as Anderson Cooper made a deal for a new one-hour daytime show and now there are whispers Katie Couric might reunite with Matt Lauer on the Today show. Her pricey stint at CBS Evening News (she’s said to make $15 million a year) has been plagued with problems and low ratings, and once her contract’s up at the end of May, it’s unlikely she’ll stay on. Meredith Vieira may leave Today to be with her family. So what do you think? Is daytime a better fit for Ms. Couric?
And our dear Oprah certainly is making a splash during her last year on the air. She just landed the first interview with Mel Gibson’s ex Oksana Grigorieva, according to a source. 60 Minutes also wanted to talk to the Russian beauty, but what Oprah wants, Oprah gets. We can’t imagine what they have to talk about…
Sacrebleu! It seems French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has been very bad. She met Prince Daniel and Princess Victoria at the Elysee Palace earlier this week, dressed in a very conservative pantsuit with long, wide-legged trousers. But it seems there’s still a 200-year-old law in Paris banning trousers for women. One historian claims, “Trousers were not only a symbol of male power, but of the separation of the sexes. A woman who wore trousers was accused of cross-dressing.” The law was never repealed, but we doubt Carla will get in any trouble—unless she doesn’t meet the high sartorial standards of Paris Fashion Week.
Congratulations are in order for nerd king Seth Rogen. The 28-year-old funnyman is engaged to longtime girlfriend, writer and actress Lauren Miller. They’ve been dating since 2004, long before he was famous. He once said “I have a girlfriend who is far prettier than I should have.” Aww.
Robert Cavalli went all out for his 40th anniversary this week with a Parisian party jam packed with socialites and stars. Heidi Klum, Bar Refaeli, Naomi Campbell and Leona Lewis lit up the red carpet. Kylie Minogue performed at the glittery bash at the Ãcole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts of the Left Bank.
Catherine Zeta-Jones, who was reportedly furious with Michael Douglas’ doctors after his diagnosis with throat cancer, finally spoke out about the painful ordeal. Her husband, whose Wall Street sequel opened at the top of last week’s box office, is holding up “very, very well” during his chemotherapy, she told an audience at a Welcome to Wales concert. “Everyone couldn”t be happier with his progress. He’s holding up with great strength and dignity,” she said. We wish nothing but the best for him.
