Soong May-ling aka Madame Chiang Kai-shek

Soong May-ling aka Madame Chiang Kai-shek

A hell of a babe, tiny but a fireball, just like Yuki but much more ambitious. She lived until 2003, staying near Gracie Square in the Bagel and only leaving the stage aged 105. When I quoted one of Confucius’s most famous sayings—“man who goes to bed with hard problem wakes up with solution in hand”—I was not only roundly booed but made to feel a philistine and a blasphemer. Yet I’m fascinated by Chinese history, and the fact that they see us Westerners as worms. (They deny it but they do.) I love the Japanese because of Bushido, the code of the Samurai, something the Chinese are not exactly enamored of, but the Japanese women are not the power behind the throne. The Chinese women are. That caused the downfall of Wendi Deng—she overreached all the way into Tony Blair’s trousers. Down with Wendi up with Yuki.
