Now that Fred Thompson has given up on the idea of becoming president, an errand he never seemed to care that much about and which he was probably undertaking at the behest of his wife (who can be rather convincing, I’m sure), he’s become all anti-government, radical, and sarcastic about the the bailouts. I didn’t know the man who replaced Paul Harvey as the country’s Folksy But Wise Old Man in Chief was capable of such biting satire. It makes one wonder: Was Fred Thompson’s whole ‘08 run an exercise in sarcasm, and we just didn’t get it?
