Treasury Secretary/National Treasure Timothy Geithner has asked Congress to raise the $12.1 trillion debt ceiling, saying:

“It is critically important that Congress act before the limit is reached so that citizens and investors here and around the world can remain confident that the United States will always meet its obligations.”

Yes, it is critically important we take on more debt in order to maintain the world?s confidence in our ability to pay debt.  Next time I apply for a Mastercard to pay off my Visa, I?ll be sure to tell them it is critically important I get a new credit card to keep my old one from being cut up.  Stop playing politics, Mastercard.  Now is not the time for partisan credit checks!
