If you’re a conservative blogger, you’ve noticed them everywhere since July 2008: Left-wing “trolls” who leave comments intended to disrupt, discredit or demoralize opposition to Obama. They often use simple one-word names like “Bob” or “Jim” and begin their posts by claiming to be conservatives who are, however, concerned by blah, blah, blah.
Investigative journalist Matthew Vadum calls our attention to the scope and nature of the problem, and reminds us that Obama campaign guru David Axelrod knows a thing or two about online “astroturfing” (i.e., fake grassroots) campaigns.
