Today Dutch voters went to the polls and the results from the first exit polls are in. It appears that Geert Wilders‘s Partij voor de Vrijheid (Party of Freedom) will take four seats in the European Parliament making it the second biggest political faction from the Netherlands.
Only the Christian Democrats scored higher with five seats. Impressively Wilders’ party has beaten entrenched establishment parties such as the Social Democrats and Right-Liberal VVD which he left five years ago after the party leadership objected to his criticism of mass immigration and radical Islam.
Wilders’s victory came despite repeated “warnings” from the mainstream media calling on people to reject his “hard right” and “fringe” message. The people apparently had different ideas.
Wilders’s celebrated the win telling media “The Netherlands has awoken.”
