“The fact that a great many Jewish neoconservatives”€“people like Joe Lieberman and the crowd over at Commentary”€“plumped for this war, and now for an even more foolish assault on Iran, raised the question of divided loyalties: using U.S. military power, U.S. lives and money, to make the world safe for Israel.”

Sounds like Pat Buchanan, writing well before the first Gulf war “€“ or me, writing in the run-up to the second. But no, it’s Joe Klein, in none other than Time magazine, saying out loud what everyone knows and none save a few dare speak of above a whisper.

America’s Likudniks went ballistic upon reading this, and launched a fusillade of smears accusing Klein of the usual “€“ the Anti-Defamation League warned him that he was treading on some very big toes, and National Review, anticipating his demise as an avatar of the conventional wisdom, opined: “€œIt’s like watching a movie that you now know is going to end very badly, and very sadly.”€ Mickey Kaus over at Slate thought he just might get away with it, but Scott McConnell, writing on the TAC blog, notes that Klein’s holiday “€œvacation”€ seems suspiciously open-ended ….

Will Klein, otherwise a reliable component of the Establishment Echo Chamber, get away with it. Place your bets here ….

Another note in the same song —If you’re campaigning for the office of President of the United States, where do you place your online ads? Why, in the Jerusalem Post, of course….
